Marshall East Campus Learning Alternatives

Mission and Vision:
The mission of the Marshall East Campus Learning Alternatives
is “To provide students with real-world learning experiences through
cooperative planning, flexible learning and fun that will lead to success in
life.” The center staff recognizes that all learners have unique learning
needs and is committed to providing learning experiences specifically
tailored to each individual student. The students and staff at Marshall
East work together as a learning community by listening, learning and
respecting one another. Marshall East works to connect students and families
with community service agencies developing a sense of trust, caring, and
meeting our vision of “Providing a place of hope”.

Program Opportunities:
1. Seat Based Program
Marshall East Campus learning alternative is a
seat-based program that offers the opportunity to earn a
diploma. The curriculum at the center is based on the Minnesota graduation
standards. To graduate students will be required to complete all standards
and credits as listed in Minnesota statute and pass the Minnesota basic
standards tests in reading, math, and written language or the MCA II Tests
(2010+).
2. “After Hours”
In addition to our seat-based program, Marshall East Campus
also offers an “After Hours” program from 3 P.M. to 6 P.M. on Monday through
Thursday. This program is for students who need to reclaim or makeup
credits from any of the area high schools.
3. Middle School Program
Marshall East Learning Alternatives also provides and a math
remediation program for Middle School students located on site at the Middle
School. Entrance into this program is determined by the student’s academic
needs and teacher recommendation.
4. Summer School Program
We offer a summer program for students who have at least
completed grade eight. Students can attend summer school to make up
credits in the basic core areas needed for graduation. Our program runs all
day for four weeks. Students are able to makeup up 1 total academic
credit. They can also participate in our work experience program and earn
an additional credit.
5. Work Experience Program
Marshall East Campus provides students with opportunities to
develop skills for the workplace. Participants in the work experience
program can use their work experiences to earn elective credit toward
graduation. The experiences can include internships, youth service, work
experience, or a practicum. Students, parents and employers agree to a
work based training agreement, which includes quarterly on site evaluations
by the work experience coordinator.
Student Support Services:
1. Student Leadership
MAAP Stars is our leadership program. It helps students to
develop employment, academic and social skills. Its goal is to encourage
self-motivation and self-confidence. MAAP Stars builds an appreciation for
the responsibilities of citizenship and builds teamwork. Our students
attend a fall leadership conference, legislative day, and a spring events
conference. At the spring conference our students have opportunities to
participate in the following areas: Competitive and Demonstration events,
Artistic Performance, and Artistic Display.
2. Marshall East Child Care Center
At our mall site Marshall East Campus has a full range of day
care facilities for children ages 6 weeks through pre-school. Our center is

3. Teen Parenting Program
Students at the center have access to parent education topics
such as pregnancy, delivery, infant care, child growth and development, and
living on your own.
