ENGLISH SECOND LANGUAGE PROGRAM

Marshall Public Schools has Kindergarten through Twelfth grade English Second Language programming (ESL) for our students whose second language is English. There are licensed English Limited Language teachers in each building.

Students are evaluated in the Fall and Spring for eligibility and progress/exiting purposes.  The core curriculum implemented is Hampton Brown Literacy for ELL students.

ELL students are also eligible for Title I services for supplemental reading support and special education for learning disabilities.  Evaluation also determines eligibility for those programs.

All students in Marshall Public Schools take the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments II.  ELL students are also required by the Minnesota Department of Education to take the Test of Emerging Academic English which evaluates reading, writing, listening and speaking for proficiency purposes.

For more information, contact Deb Miller, Principal of Special Programs, at (507) 929-2604.
